Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the most popular world leader on Facebook, garnering over 43.2 million likes on the social media platform. A study titled 'World Leaders on Facebook', published by communication firm Burson-Marsteller revealed that Modi's followers include US President Donald Trump, who himself is in second place with 23.1 million followers.
This number of followers has also made him the most popular leader of Asia, since Facebook is more widely used in this region, than Twitter. The study analysed the activity of 650 Facebook pages of heads of state, government, and foreign ministries from January 1, 2017, to calculate the data from Facebook's Crowdtangle tool. Over fifty variables were considered, including likes, check-ins, location, liked by pages, etc.
