New Delhi-Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a five-nation tour commencing July 2, with visits to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Argentina, culminating in his attendance at the BRICS summit in Brazil. He will also make a stop in Namibia on his return journey. Notably, this will mark Modi’s inaugural visit to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Namibia, expanding India’s diplomatic outreach.

Announcing Modi’s participation in the BRICS summit, the government stated that the Prime Minister will engage in crucial discussions on key global issues. These include the reform of global governance structures, matters of peace and security, strengthening multilateralism, and the responsible application of artificial intelligence. Discussions will also cover climate action, global health challenges, and various economic and financial matters, reflecting a comprehensive agenda for international cooperation.

On the side-lines of the summit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with leaders from participating nations. These interactions aim to further strengthen India’s diplomatic and economic ties with key global partners. According to government sources, Modi’s visit to Argentina is particularly anticipated to enhance the India-Argentina partnership across several vital sectors. These include defence cooperation, agricultural collaboration, mining, oil and gas exploration, and the promotion of renewable energy. The visit is also expected to boost bilateral trade and investment, fostering stronger economic linkages between the two countries. This extensive tour underscores India’s proactive engagement in global diplomacy and its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships across diverse regions.

Following his ongoing five-nation tour, rumours are that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is considering a visit to the United Kingdom. This potential trip arises amidst uncertainty surrounding a previously planned visit by the UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer to India, which had been scheduled for around the third week of July. PM Starmer’s prospective visit follows a recent preparatory trip to India by Labour's Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy (see AV 14-20 June Page 1).

Sources indicate that the UK Prime Minister's own travel plans, or a previously mooted visit to India, may have been impacted by ongoing international conflicts and pressing domestic political considerations.
