Rahul Gandhi on Saturday took over as the new Congress President, assuming the mantle of India's oldest political party from his mother Sonia Gandhi. Soon after assuming charge, Rahul launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of ‘taking us back to the medieval times’.

The 47-year-old was officially made the party chief in a ceremony held at the party’s 24 Akbar Road headquarters. His main challenge remains the revamping of party organisation, apart from electoral battles in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
