Punjab assembly Speaker

CHANDIGARH: Congress' Rana Kanwar Pal Singh has been unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. His name was proposed by CM Capt Amarinder Singh, and seconded by state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Brahm Mohindra. The process of selection was, however, marred by a walkout and protests from MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party and its ally Lok Insaf Party, who demanded a debate on the Governor's address. A law graduate from Dehradun University, Singh was practising law at the Rubnagar district courts before joining politics.
