Tuesday 06th January 2015 10:58 EST

“Inspired by Gandhi” and in association with SAMPAD (South Asian Arts Organization) an Online Writing Competition will be organised at Kochrab Ashram, Mahatma Gandhi's first ashram established on his return to India in 1915 on the banks of river Sabaramati in Ahmedabad. Indeed the ashram was a historic place in the annals of our history. The competition will be held on 9th January, 2015 at 9 am at Kochrab Ashram, Anand Nagar, Paldi, Opp V S Hospital, Ahmedabad – 380007.

Sushri Piali Ray OBE is the director of SAMPAD. It has been very active for several years in UK as well as abroad. SAMPAD earlier this year organised a major event with co-operation of the Indian High Commission in London where a similar competition on the “Writings of the Tagore” was held.

We are grateful for the permission granted by Shri Rajendra Khimani (Registrar- Gujarat Vidyapith) & also of Shri Ramesh Trivedi (Co-ordinator, Kochrab Ashram) to help us organize this event. We have invited a small number of people from India, especially from Gujarat as well as few NRI friends. Prof. Lord Bhikhu Parekh who has done enormous work on Gandhiji has also been invited. We hope that he would be able to attend and launch this project with brief address. Dr. Jayshreeben Mehta (Chairman, Indian Medical Council), Shri Krushnakant Vakhariya (President, Vishwa Gujarati Samaj), Shri Vishnubhai Pandya (Secretary, Vishwa Gujarati Samaj), Shri K.H. Patel, (Chairman, NRG Centre), Dr. Balwant Jani, Shri Tushar Joshi, Smt. Mayaben Deepak and several other prominent persons have also been invited for this event. We would request and appreciate as this invitation can be send to any admirer of Mahatmaji in your contacts. Members of Gujarat Media Club as well as Shri Bhupatrai Parekh, a senior Journalist (Bureau Chief, Hindustan Samachar) have also been invited for this programme. In view of several other programmes involved with Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, we do recognize that a large number of VIPs will be engaged elsewhere. We sincerely hope that you will be able to accept our humble invitation and attend this short but significant programme.

Sincerely yours,

C.B. Patel
