Sarhali (Tarn Taran): A rocket propelled grenade (RPG) was fired at a police station in Tarn Taran district of Punjab last week, exactly seven months after a similar attack on the building housing the Punjab Police intelligence headquarters in Mohali on May 9.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the grenade was fired from the highway (Amritsar-Bathinda) using RPG and the device seemed to be “military-grade hardware that could have been smuggled from across the border”.

The grenade damaged a portion of the cement walls and windows of the Sanjh Kendra, situated on the premises of Sarhali police station, but no major damage to property or loss of life was reported. Yadav said a case under the UAPA had been registered, and police teams were investigating the crime technically and forensically, as well as collecting clues from the spot to reconstruct the RPG attack scene.

Police are probing the role of Pakistan operatives, their handlers, and the elements in touch with them to catch perpetrators of the crime. Yadav said it appeared that the enemy country was rattled by the success of shooting down of drones and confiscation of ammunition and explosives in the past two-three months.
