KURUKSHETRA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked the Mahabharata at a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan event in Kurukshetra, Haryana, stating that it was time to launch a final war on immorality and corruption, and that it was the corrupt who had problems with him. Speaking at the Swachh Shakti-2019, Modi tried to strike a chord with Haryana and Haryanvis too in his speech by thanking the state for its contribution to the country and his political growth. “Thousands of years ago, Lord Krishna launched a cleanliness programme: it was through war. Similarly, we have to launch a war on immorality now. Our mission is to free India of corruption; this will gain momentum after we get the mandate in the Lok Sabha polls,” the PM said.

He said he was committed to reciprocating Haryana's contribution to his political and the country's growth. Though he did not name any party, he missed no opportunity to target the Opposition. “This state blessed me soon after the party declared me tis prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 elections. I addressed the first rally in Rewari. Similarly, we launched the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign from Haryana in 2015 and you have seen the results. We have launched other schemes like Ayushman Bharat from Haryana too,” Modi said.

Modi also lauded Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and the state for producing medal-winning women athletes. He targeted the Opposition, saying that it had mocked him when he had launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at the Red Fort in New Delhi. He said his government's drive against public defecation and push for having toilets in all houses had been undertaken keeping the “respect for sisters and mothers in mind.” “Our government has tried to make life simpler for the poor and middle class by rooting out corruption and throwing the middleman out of the system,” he said.

The PM inaugurated two healthcare institutions- National Cancer Institute at Jhajjar and the ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Faridabad, and laid the foundation stone of National Institute of Ayurveda, Panchkula, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya University of Health Sciences, Karnal, Shri Krishna AYUSH University, Kurukshetra, and Battles of Panipat Museum, Panipat.
