Man fined, jailed for possession of narcotic drug

Pathankot: A local court has slapped a fine of Rs 100,000 on Puneet Mahajan, along with a sentence of 10 years rigorous imprisonment, for illegal possession of a narcotic drug. Public prosecutor JP Bains said Mahajan was apprehended by police for possessing 750 grams of Dextroprpoxyphene Hydrochloride, an opioid, in 2011. He was also booked under various sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. During the trial, Mahajan jumped bail, then declared a proclaimed offender, and later rearrested this month.
