Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide ‘Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan’, a 100-week campaign aimed at creating a drug-free India through public participation.
Addressing the launch via video conference, Modi said the government had intensified action against drug trafficking, with a sharp rise in arrests and seizures of narcotics worth thousands of crores of rupees. He said the campaign, held every Sunday for the next 100 weeks, would encourage young people to stay away from substance abuse and contribute to building a developed India by 2047.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged India’s youth to stay away from drugs, saying they are the country’s “Amrit Peedhi” and will play a crucial role in achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047. He said young people’s energy, talent and imagination would be vital for the nation’s progress.
Modi appealed to families not to conceal addiction cases due to social stigma and instead seek timely medical assistance. He warned that drug abuse affects not only individuals but also families and society, and alleged that hostile forces attempt to trap young people through narcotics.
Modi urged educational institutions to discuss the dangers of drug abuse with students and launch anti-addiction campaigns on campuses. He said the initiative had already received participation from over one crore young people, including students, MY Bharat and NSS volunteers.
Highlighting the role of society, yoga, meditation and rehabilitation centres in overcoming addiction, he called on youth to lead the movement for a drug-free India. The 100-week ‘Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan’ will organise awareness and outreach activities every Sunday across the country.
Gujarat youth take pledge for drug-free India
At the Gandhinagar event, Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel encouraged young participants to take a pledge against substance abuse, highlighting the role of a healthy youth population in achieving a developed India.
During the interaction, Governor Devvrat called on young people to replace harmful addictions with positive commitments such as environmental protection, water conservation and respect for elders. He also highlighted his efforts to promote natural farming and tree plantation across Gujarat under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
Governor Acharya Devvrat said he regularly engages with Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families and villagers to promote education, de-addiction and natural farming. He highlighted the harmful impact of chemical fertilisers and said his efforts have helped nearly 8.5 lakh farmers in Gujarat adopt natural farming practices.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the government aims to turn the anti-drug campaign into a people’s movement, with youth taking the ‘Drug-Free Youth – Viksit Bharat Pledge’. The programme saw participation from governors of 26 states and chief ministers of 11 states.
My Bharat State Director Sachin Sharma said the initiative has connected with over 2.5 crore youth nationwide, including more than 9 lakh in Gujarat, promoting responsibility, positivity and national service. The event was attended by dignitaries, students and young participants online and offline.
BAPS youth join nationwide anti-drug movement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ Pledge Campaign to promote a drug-free youth population. The initiative saw participation from young people across India, including MY Bharat and NSS volunteers, educational institutions and over 125 spiritual organisations.
More than 30,000 youths from over 60 BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha centres across India participated in the campaign by taking the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ pledge.
Pujya Ishwarcharan Swami encouraged young people to support the movement, highlighting Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s teachings on staying free from addictions. He said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a healthier, drug-free India.
BAPS also highlighted its long-standing efforts in promoting de-addiction and social welfare, with spiritual leaders inspiring millions of people to give up addictions and adopt a value-based lifestyle.
