At the G7 Summit in Evian, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on global leaders to keep human values at the centre of Artificial Intelligence development.

He stressed the need for international cooperation to ensure AI is deployed safely, efficiently and in a way that protects children, strengthens cybersecurity and supports inclusion, especially in the Global South.

Describing AI as one of the most transformative technologies in history, Modi said its influence is already visible across sectors such as healthcare, education, manufacturing and governance.

He also said the success of AI should not be measured only by technological advancement, but by how much it improves the lives of ordinary people, reaffirming India’s focus on human-centric AI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India’s MANAV vision as the basis of its AI strategy, stressing that human values must remain central to technological development. He also referred to global calls for ethical and inclusive AI, including remarks by Pope Leo XIV.

He warned about risks such as misinformation, deepfakes and online exploitation, especially for children, while noting AI’s benefits in education and personalised learning. He said outcomes depend more on governance and values than on technology itself.

On cybersecurity, Modi said AI can strengthen digital defence but requires global cooperation, with cyberspace treated as a shared public good. He also called for broader access to AI for developing nations and democracies.

He outlined four priorities: safe-by-design systems, global standards and testing frameworks, regulatory sandboxes, and stronger cooperation against cyber threats using tools like watermarking and authentication. He concluded that AI must promote inclusion, protect dignity and enhance human potential.
