The High Commission of India has organised a programme marking the International Day of Yoga, on 19th June, at Potters Fields Park, London. The event that will start at 9 am, will be followed by a series of yoga sessions led by experts.

June 21 was recognised as International Yoga Day, by the United Nations General Assembly after the pitch was made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014. Countries and regions across the globe are making preparations to mark the day, arranging for different events and programmes. Thousands of people are expected to gather at the iconic Times Square while spiritual leaders and different Indian associations busy themselves with arrangements to host events in schools, temples, and top tourist spots. "Yoga unites us with the universal flow and connects us with our own personal rhythms. The discipline of yoga enhances our ability to respond to subtle cues that promote wellness. Peace becomes the natural environment of our relationships and our world," said Douglas Stewart, Co-founder of the Solstice in Times Square: Mind Over Madness Yoga.

India's Permanent Mission to the UN has organised the 'Conversation with Yoga Masters - Yoga for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals' at the world body's headquarters on June 20 and 21. The event will be marked by diplomats and UN officials and people like Isha Foundation founder and spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri, and the likes.

Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravishankar will open the Yoga Day celebrations at the European parliament; leading the parliament members through a guided meditation at the Yehudi Menuhin Hall. A statement read, "He will also lead a series of public events on Sudarshan Kriya, yoga, and meditation in the cities of Washington DC, Boston, Columbus, Minnesota, San Fransisco, Portland, United Kingdom and Seattle." The Art of Living organisation will also hold celebrations on June 21 in across 100 countries, including India.

Over 20,000 people are expected to participate in the Indian capital of New Delhi, while over 16,500 in Mumbai across four venues.
