Lata Mangeshkar ‘doing much better’

After the initial health scare, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar is now ‘doing much better’, as per a statement released by her team. The statement from the singer’s team read, “Dear Friends. We are as happy as you are to inform you that with all your prayers and best wishes, Lata didi is doing much better. Thank You for being there. God is great.” Lata was admitted to Breach Candy hospital after she complained of breathlessness.

Rumours have been doing rounds about the singer’s demise, but her spokesperson Anusha Srinivasan Iyer quashed these rumours and said, “Lata didi is stable and getting better. Request to not pay heed to needless rumours and react. Let us all collectively pray for her long life instead.” Mangeshkar has reportedly been diagnosed with pneumonia and chest infection and is still in the ICU. Many celebs were seen visiting, including younger sister, singer Asha Bhosle and niece, actress Padmini Kolhapure. A family statement reportedly read "Her parameters are good. Honestly speaking, she has fought so well that she is coming out of this setback. Being a singer, her lung capacity has pulled her through. Truly a fighter. We will update everyone when Lataji gets discharged and comes home. (We) request that we give family the space they deserve at the moment."

Known as the 'Nightingale of India,' Lata Mangeshkar has sung a record number of songs in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and other regional languages. Besides bagging numerous awards, she has also been honoured with the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The 90-year-old singer is an icon of Indian cinema and has contributed tremendously to Indian film music through her magical voice.
