India wins yet again, says Modi as NDA heads for landslide victory

With the BJP headed for a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said India has won again and together with everyone, a strong and inclusive nation will be built. Riding on a massive Modi wave sweeping through most parts of India, the BJP and its alliance is set to return to power as it led in over 345 seats while the Congress and its alliance is leading in only 90 seats,, according to trends released by the Election Commission for all 542 seats that went to polls.

"With all+ development for all+ everybody's confidence = victorious India," Modi tweeted. "Together we grow. Together we prosper. Together we will build a strong and inclusive India. India wins yet again," he said.

According to the latest trends, NDA and its alliance partners are leading in 345 seats, UPA and its partners are leading in 90 seats and others are leding in 107 seats. In the Assembly election, Andhra Pradesh going to Jagan Mohan Reddy's party and in Odisha its is Naveen Patnaik again.

Highest vote share for the BJP

As of 1.30 p.m., the Bharatiya Janata Party had garnered 38.5% of the votes counted. The NDA as a whole, managed to garner close to 45% of the vote. This is the highest vote share received by the party nation-wide in any Lok Sabha election since the party was formed in 1980.

The BJP-led coalition (with the Shiv Sena, the Janata Dal (United), the Shiromani Akali Dal, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam among others) won a cumulative vote share of nearly 45%, which is higher than what the NDA got in 2014 – 38%. In contrast, the Congress party has managed only a marginal improvement in its vote share from 2014 - by around 2.6 percentage points to gather 22.07% of the counted votes so far.
