A report made by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute has placed India on sixth position in terms of military expenditure in 2015. With a total of $51.3 billion, the country places ahead of its principal arms suppliers; France, Germany and Israel.
Head of SIPRI's Military Expenditure Project, Sam Perlo-Freeman, said, “On the one hand, spending trends reflect the escalating conflict and tension in many parts of the world; on the other hand, they show a clear break from the oil-fuelled surge in military spending of the past decade.” US tops the list even though it fell 2.4 per cent with an expenditure of $596 billion. India has seen a 43 per cent rise in the last decade and has moved a rank up from 2014.
