A 20 year old serial rapist-murderer was arrested on Monday, following the brutal abuse and killing of a 3 year old in Gurugram. Sunil Basura, during the course of the investigation, revealed the reason behind getting caught, saying he forgot to wear a “lucky” blue shirt that he would put on before perpetrating the crime in order to evade getting caught. He also had a modus operandi, saying he would lure a minor girl with a 10 rupees note or a chocolate, take her to an isolated place where he would physically assault her brutally in order to get aroused, rape her, then disfigure and kill her.
Basura has allegedly described how he murdered three girls in Gurugram between the time frame of 2016-18, and also confessed killing and raping as many as six minors in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi. DCP Sumit Kuhar spoke to the media, and said Basura would approach girls aged between three to eight at religious community kitchens, where he took advantage of the crowd while their parents weren't paying attention. He used to survey the crime spot on the previous day, keep sticks and bricks handy.
The recent rape and murder incident held sharp resemblance to a crime committed years ago, and the police reportedly laid a trap by organising bhandaras across Delhi, Gurugram, and UP, and spent over three lakhs. Basura was finally arrested from one of the independently-organised community kitchens.
