Business tycoon Gautam Adani met former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray in Matoshree, Mumbai. The meeting lasted for an hour, creating a buzz around the corner. Thackeray lost chief ministership to party colleague Eknath Shinde’s rebel camp that formed the government in the state with the BJP’s support, changing the political scenario in Maharashtra.

The meeting between Adani and Thackeray, who share friendly relations, was only to exchange greetings, said sources. Incidentally, this meeting comes on a day when the Maharashtra cabinet cleared the proposal to again seek tenders for the Dharavi redevelopment project with additional benefits. In the past, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Thackeray had three meetings to put the much-delayed project on track, since then Adani group’s name was in the estimate for this project. An official said, “the meeting took place”, but declined to elaborate on what occurred or was discussed between Adani and Thackeray. Hours after this meeting, Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP, who is currently part of his party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, addressed a gathering in Kochi, said that “The second richest man on planet is from India. He can monopolize any business he wants in the country. Who gives him money to build these businesses? It comes from public sector banks. It’s your money”.
