DRDO gets first woman Director General

The Defence Research and Development Organisation has appointed their first woman director general, J Manjula, for their Electronics and Communication Systems division. She has taken charge from distinguished general K D Nayak, who was holding additional charge as the DG of electronic and communication system.

An alumna of Osmania University and a practising electronics and communications engineer, Manjula has been leading Defence Avionics Research Establishment as director, since July 2014. A statement released by the DRDO said she has served in Defence Electronics Research Laboratory, Hyderabad, for more than 26 years in the area of Integrated Electronic Warfare.

She has designed and realised fast signal acquisition receivers, high power RF systems, responsive jammers, controller software etc. for various systems inducted in Army, Navy, Air Force and Paramilitary, the statement said.

Manjula is a recipient of DRDO award for 'Performance Excellence' and 'Scientist of the Year 2011'.
