Accidental firing near PM Modi's official residence creates panic

An accidental firing on Wednesday evening near Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence created panic in New Delhi.

However, no one was injured in the incident.

Initial investigations into the incident suggested that the shots were accidentally fired when the AK-47 assault rifle of the gunman of a PCR van, Victor 35, went off. 

Three shots were fired one after another at the spot, which is a parking lot near the 7 Race Course Road.

The gunman was identified as Constable Ramesh. 

Police rushed to the spot and the Kamal Ataturk Marg was taken under heavy security cover. 

A case was being registered at Chanakyapuri police station in this regard. A detailed investigation has been ordered into the matter.

Disciplinary action, including suspension, may be initiated against the erring cop.
