Industry leaders declare mega investment at Vibrant Gujarat

Vibrant Gujarat 2019 began with a bang as industry biggies maintained tradition and declared mega investments at the summit being held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Prominent businessmen have showered investments in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi were Mukesh Ambani, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Gautam Adani, Sudhir Mehta and Didier Casimiro among others. Reliance Industries Limited Chairman Mukesh Ambani called Gujarat his company's Janmabhoomi as well as its Karmabhoomi, as he announced an investment of £30 billion in the state over the next 10 years. He said, “We have so far invested nearly £30 billion in Gujarat and created over one millon livelihood opportunities in the state. In comparison to the past decades, Reliance will double this investment and employment numbers over the next 10 years. Reliance’s new business model will move away from concentrated investments in a few locations to much larger investments in a distributed manner all across Gujarat.”

Adani group chairman Gautam Adani committed investments of £5.5 billion for different projects across sectors over the next five years. He said, “Our investments in Gujarat in the past five years exceed £5 billion and we are further accelerating our investments.” Adani Group proposed to infuse £3 billion particularly to build the world's largest solar hybrid park in Kutch. The group's other investment projects include establishment of a 1GW data centre park in Mundra, copper smelting and refining project, cement and clinker manufacturing unit in Lakhpat. Group plans to invest for lithium battery manufacturing complex and expand its photovoltaic manufacturing capabilities.

Chairman of Aditya Birla group, Kumar Mangalam Birla, announced an investment of £1.5 billion for capacity expansion and creation of new plants in the state. One of the promoters of Torrent Group Sudhir Mehta declared that the group will invest £1 billion for projects in renewable energy, power transmission and gas distribution projects in Gujarat. Torrent has so far invested £3 billion in the state, Mehta said.

Also involved in the summit, N Chandrasekaran, chairman, Tata Sons, said, “We look forward to continuing our investment in the state. We are in discussion with the state government for significantly increasing our capacity in Tata Chemicals to reach 1 million tons of soda ash.”
