The much-anticipated biopic on legendary Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulakshmi is reportedly nearing an official announcement, with the makers planning a grand portrayal of her life, music and legacy.

According to a Gulte report, Rashmika Mandanna has been finalised to play Subbulakshmi. The film is expected to be officially announced on September 16, the singer’s birth anniversary, with details of the title, cast and production team. The role could also mark a significant opportunity for Rashmika to explore a new side of her acting.

The casting for the MS Subbulakshmi biopic has reportedly gone through several changes. Sai Pallavi was initially considered for the role but is said to have opted out due to scheduling conflicts, while Rukmini Vasanth was later linked to the project. The makers have now reportedly chosen Rashmika Mandanna, who will need to portray not only the singer’s appearance but also her grace, personality and stage presence.

Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the film is backed by Rockline Venkatesh, Allu Aravind and Bunny Vas. It aims to introduce Subbulakshmi’s remarkable life and contribution to Indian classical music to a new generation. More details are expected with the proposed September 16 announcement.

Rashmika also has the Telugu film Mysaa in production and will star alongside Vijay Deverakonda in Ranabaali.
