Dhanush's 'Maari' opened to packed houses running all over the weekend, giving the actor a box office hat-trick.
His movie 'Vellaiilla Pattathari' had a box office opening of Rs 4.4 crore and went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2014. 'Anegan' collected Rs. 5.8 crore on its first day and now, with 'Maari' and its Rs 6.2 crore opening, the actor has broken his own records.
While Dhanush has not officially tweeted the BO figures, he tweeted, “Thank u thank u thank u all for this phenomenal opening. Biggest opening of my career. Celebrations r in order. Happiest day.” Music director Anirudh also tweeted, “#Maari Thank u for #DnA's highest opening till date! Thanks to @directormbalaji for making us go #TharaLocal”
Dhanush plays a local don in the movie and his own catchphrase “Senjudiven” which has found popularity on Twitter. Robo Shakar has also received praise for his acting in the film. After an initial decision to release on a Thursday, the makers cancelled and rescheduled statewide release to Friday. Maari released to over 300 screens in Tamil Nadu and is said to be going strong this weekend too.
