Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar has confirmed that a sequel to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is in development, 15 years after the original hit theatres.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India at the Monsoon Film Festival, Zoya revealed that she is working on the much-awaited follow-up with longtime collaborator Reema Kagti.

Zoya Akhtar said the Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara sequel is still being developed and will move forward only if the story feels right for the characters at this stage of their lives. She said the team is unsure where the project will lead but hopes to make it work.

The trio of Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol reunited for a 2025 Yas Island advertisement, sparking speculation about a sequel. Zoya said many fans initially mistook the ad for a film trailer, with some later expressing disappointment.

Released in 2011, the original film followed three friends; Arjun, Kabir and Imran, on a road trip across Spain. Directed by Zoya and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, it starred Hrithik, Farhan, Abhay, Katrina Kaif, Kalki Koechlin and Naseeruddin Shah. The film was made on a reported Rs 45 crore budget and earned Rs 153 crore worldwide.
