Sharmila Tagore reveals that she was largely "absent" during the initial six years after giving birth to her son, Saif Ali Khan. The veteran actor, married to cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan at the time, mentioned that when they welcomed Saif, she was occupied with at least two shifts a day in the film industry.
Speaking at a recent Mother’s Day event, the 79-year-old actor candidly reflected on her experience of becoming a mother for the first time and acknowledged that she may have made "a few mistakes."
Sharmila Tagore, who also has two daughters, Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan, shared, "When I had Saif, I was very busy, working two shifts a day. For the first six years of his life, I was really absent. Although I attended parent-teacher meetings and his plays, I don’t think I was a full-time mom. My husband was there, but I wasn’t. Then, when I became a mother, I became overzealous. I wanted to do everything for him—feed him, bathe him, everything. That was the other side of the pendulum. I made a few mistakes, honestly."
“But he has grown up pretty ok. My husband was there, and we had the support of the extended family and my friends. One of his school teachers would live across the apartment in Mumbai. She and her husband really looked after Saif as well… For the girls I was there,” she added.
