Bollywood's amiable mother Reema Lagoo died of a heart attack at a Mumbai hospital at the age of 58. Her son-in-law Vinay Waikul said, “She complained of chest pain and we took her to the hospital around 1 am. She passed away around 3.15 am. She was perfectly fine and had no health issues. It is really shocking that she is no more with us.”

The much-loved actress played mother to several actor-actresses in films, including 'Maine Pyaar Kiya', 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun', and 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. She was a Sooraj Barjatya favourite, hence a regular in his movies. Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt said she retained “an unquenchable thirst” to sparkle on screen in roles with depth. He said, “She was an extraordinary actor who was much bigger than the roles that writers and directors took to her.”

Reema's on-screen daughter actress Renuka Shahane wrote a heartfelt post on her Facebook in the actor's memory. “Reema Tai….the first time I met you, many, many years before I got to work with you in films, was at your home. I couldn’t take my eyes off you…..you were so beautiful. Then I saw you on stage…. you were outstanding…..what an immensely powerful actress you were on stage! I was in awe of you….a huge fan. I wouldn’t have imagined I would get the opportunity to work with you a few years down the line.”

She added, “And the Hindi films you did didn’t do your immense talent justice….and life hasn’t been just in snatching you away so early! Rest in eternal peace my beautiful Reematai.”
