Veteran actor and film director Manoj Kumar passed away at the age of 87 on Friday morning at Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
Medical reports state the cause of death was cardiogenic shock following a severe heart attack. He had also been battling decompensated liver cirrhosis in recent months, which had impacted his health.
Manoj Kumar was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on February 21, 2025, after his health deteriorated. Fondly known as 'Bharat Kumar' for his patriotic films, he was born Harikrishan Goswami on July 24, 1937, in Amritsar, Punjab.
He rose to fame with iconic roles in films like ‘Shaheed’, ‘Upkar’, and ‘Roti Kapda Aur Makaan’, striking a chord with audiences through themes of nationalism and unity. Celebrated for both acting and directing, he received several accolades, including a National Film Award and seven Filmfare Awards.
In recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 1992 and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.
Well-known celebrities such as Anu Malik, Zayed Khan, Amitabh Bachchan with his son Abhishekh Bachchan, Raza Murad, Prem Chopra with wife Shubash Chandra, Sudhanshu Pandey, Amit Khanna, Rajpal Yadav, writer Salim Khan and many others were present during the Manoj Kumar’s funeral.
