BJP MP and Bollywood veteran actress Hema Malini in a car accident

Bollywood's dreamgirl and BJP MP Hema Malini has met with an accident after her Mercedes collided with another car, resulting in the death of a four year old.

The 66 year old actress was in the car that was allegedly speeding at the time it collided with a Maruti Alto in Dausa, Rajasthan. Her driver Ramesh Thakur was driving the car and an FIR has been lodged against him, under various sections of IPC including 279 and 304 (A).

There were three people in the Mercedes, Hema Malini, her PA and driver, while the other car seated five people, including two children, two women and the complainant Hanuman Mahajan. Four year old Sonam succumbed to injuries on way to a hospital, while Hanuman, his wife Shikha, Somil, and Seema, were shifted to Jaipur’s SMS hospital.

The actress was proceeding from Mathura via Bharatpur to Jaipur when the unfortunate happened, on Agra-Jaipur National Highway-11 near Dausa around 9 pm. Hema was brought to hospital at Jaipur where she underwent CT scan and other tests. Locals staged a protest after the accident and tried to block the highway, but they were dispersed by police.

“She had lacerations in para-nasal area and on forehead near the right eyebrow,” P Tamboli, facility director at Fortis said. “A surgery of debridement and repair of lacerated wounds was carried out post midnight. Her clinical parameters are at normal level. She is doing fine and has been started on liquid diet.”

She has also suffered a minor fracture in her nasal bone. Plastic surgery was carried out near the nose and eyebrows and it will take six weeks for the wounds to heal, as per the doctors of the hospital.

State chief minister Vasundhara Raje met with the actress and visited the hospital where Mahajan and his family is admitted and enquired about the injured family, directing the administration to provide necessary care to the patients. The condition of seriously injured five year old boy Somil, who was admitted to the ICU, is now improving and the condition of Hanuman, his wife and brother’s wife is stable in poly-trauma ward, Additional Superintendent of SMS Hospital Ajit Singh said.

Both the vehicles have been ceased and the police has issued a probe in the matter.
