Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee tragically died in a drowning accident while filming in Odisha. The 43-year-old was shooting a dance sequence for the serial ‘Bhole Baba Paar Karega’ at Talsari beach when he and a co-star slipped into a deep underwater ditch.
Though rescued and initially responsive, he was declared dead at Digha State General Hospital after a nearby clinic was found unstaffed, sparking discussions on site safety.
This untimely loss has devastated the entertainment industry in West Bengal, prompting the All-Indian Cine Workers Association to demand a judicial inquiry and a formal investigation into the production's safety protocols.
In an official statement released, the producers expressed profound mourning and assured the public of total transparency during the ongoing probe. They have invited a representative from the actor’s family or the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists’ Forum to observe the inquiry and ensure fairness. Rahul, who shot to superstardom with the 2008 blockbuster Chirodini Tumi Je Amar, is survived by his wife, the actor Priyanka Sarkar, and their young son, Shohoj.
While preliminary reports suggested negligence regarding the absence of immediate medical aid, the production house has pledged to examine every detail of the sequence of events. Final forensic reports are currently awaited as the industry calls for stricter safety regulations for outdoor coastal shoots to prevent such future tragedies.
