Celebrating life and work of artisans

The High Commission of India organised an event on 3rd February 2020 to celebrate the life and work of shepherds, spinners, weavers, artisans, and craftsmen, from Kashmir, and their passionate journey to create Pashmina - the finest natural fabric known to the mankind.

HE Ruchi Ghanashyam, High Commissioner of India delivered welcome remarks and opened the event. Mrs Varuna Anand delivered a talk on the art of pashmina making and its journey through centuries. Babar Afzal shared his experiences of living among shepherds and spoke on sustainability of the industry. Charanjeet Singh, Deputy High Commissioner delivered concluding remarks following which the three artisans Varuna Anand, Babar Afzal and Aijaz Sheikh from Kashmir displayed beautiful Pashmina shawls in an exhibition at the venue.

The event was attended by over 120 people from all walks of life including politicians, business persons, community members and fashion people.
