Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched Swastha Nari Sashakt Parivar, India’s largest health-outreach programme for women and children, urging women to take full advantage of the free diagnostics and treatment it offers on his 75th birthday.
Between September 17 and October 2, more than one million health camps will be held nationwide, spanning Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to tertiary hospitals, to screen women for anaemia, hypertension, diabetes, cancer and other common conditions. Several private hospitals have also pledged to host similar camps to widen access to early detection and care.
At the launch event in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, on his 75th birthday, Prime Minister Modi urged women to attend the free health camps without hesitation. “Tests and medicines are free. The state treasury is not more important than your health,” he said, stressing that women are the foundation of national development. “If a mother is healthy, the whole family stays healthy. This campaign is dedicated to mothers and sisters for a healthier future,” he added.
Highlighting the prevalence of sickle cell anaemia in tribal areas, Prime Minister Modi urged tribal women to use the free health camps, assuring that all tests and medicines are free. “No mother or daughter should be left behind. Those needing further treatment can use the Ayushman card’s protective cover,” he said.
He also launched the Adi Karmyogi Abhiyan, a programme of service activities in tribal regions focused on health, education, nutrition, and skill development.
