UK MPs have come together to wish UK's Muslim community on Eid-al-Adha. PM Theresa May in a message said, “I send my warmest wishes to Muslims around the world, and here in the United Kingdom, who are celebrating Eid al-Adha this week. And I congratulate everyone who has performed the Hajj this year.

“At this special time, British Muslims will gather together with family, friends and neighbours to pray, to exchange gifts and to share meals.

“Amidst these celebrations, they will also remember those in need, by extending a hand of friendship and compassion to those less fortunate than themselves.

“That generosity towards others is shown all year round by British Muslims, through charitable giving and service in the community.

“Indeed, British Muslims, and people of Muslim origin, make a huge contribution to all walks of life in the United Kingdom. They help to enrich the successful multi-racial, multi-faith democracy that is twenty-first century Britain.

“As we celebrate this happy occasion here in the United Kingdom, we will also keep in our thoughts and prayers those around the world who will be marking this festival in places of conflict and insecurity...”

Lib Dem leader Vince Cable said, “I would like to extend my warmest wishes to all those observing Eid al-Adha this year. This holy festival teaches us about the importance of sacrifice, selflessness and charity; helping us turn our focus away from our ourselves and on to the needs of others.

“Eid al-Adha presents us with an opportunity to reflect upon our duty and responsibility to one another, through acts of generosity and compassion. These values are at the core of Islam’s message and are principles which resonate and align with the Liberal Democrat principles of equality and unity.

“I am in awe of the ongoing contributions of Muslims to British society, in everything from business to education, to charity, which not only bring communities together, but also showcase the very best of both British and Muslim values.

“These acts of generosity stand in marked contrast to the rising tide of hate crime and Islamophobia. Together, we must take every possible opportunity to defiantly condemn all acts of hate and intolerance.

“Let us all continue to champion a more open, tolerant and united Britain.”
