Kinnari’s story is not simply a story of business success or awards. It is a story of courage, sacrifice, determination, and the quiet strength that comes from believing in a better future.
Arriving to the United Kingdom at the age of three, little did she know of what life will bring. As like many others, struggle was a constant part of life. Her parents worked tirelessly for a better future for Kinnari and her siblings. They gave them all that they could and now her parents are happily retired.
Kinnari remained committed to learning and personal growth. After completing her A Levels, she wanted to pursue a career in Law, but having married at the age of 20, there were other responsibilities that needed to take priority. She built a successful career as a Data Analyst. It was a secure and respected profession, and through hard work she established herself professionally. Yet deep within, she knew that life was about more than comfort and routine.
Having given birth to her beautiful boys, three and a half years apart, both Kinnari and her husband Hiten, ensured their lives revolved around bringing up their Son’s, Shrey & Aarav. Both were lucky to have supportive and understanding employers, who changed their shifts so that either one of them was always home with their boys.
Life was hard, but little did they know it was going to get a whole lot harder and stressful. Thirteen years ago, when their boys were 11 and 8 years, Kinnari and Hiten decided to change their careers and embrace the world of business. They began to look to buy a Convenience Store, Newsagents/Offlicence. Never ever had any idea of what was involved, they gave up their comfortable jobs to provide a better future for their Sons.
Kinnari and Hiten’s brave decision would change the course of their lives forever. It was not the easiest path, but it was one they chose with faith, determination, and a shared dream.
That dream became Honey’s, a family-run Convenience store and Newsagent that has grown into far more than a business. Through early mornings, long days, countless challenges, and unwavering dedication, Kinnari and Hiten built Honey’s into a place that feels like part of the community. Customers became familiar faces, conversations became friendships, and the shop became a reflection of the care and warmth they pour into it every day. Limited family time, the very many sacrifices made and the countless hours, they have evolved their business into a thriving and successful name in Oxford.
Honey’s of the High, situated on Oxfords famous High Street, steeped in deep history and beautiful architecture, Kinnari and Hiten have become a major part of the community.
The recognition that followed was deeply meaningful. Honey’s received prestigious National Awards year on year, including Best Newsagent, Best Convenience Store, Best in Home News Delivery service, Customer Service and Smokeless Retailer. For Kinnari, these awards are not just trophies. They are a reminder of the years of hard work, sacrifice, family support, and belief that had brought them to this moment.
But beyond the achievements, what truly defines Kinnari is her heart. She believes that success is not measured only by what we build for ourselves, but by the kindness we show, the relationships we nurture, and the community we help strengthen. Whether through her business, her friendships, or her involvement in community service, she has always valued people above all else.
Her appointment as Secretary of the Anand Overseas Brotherhood is a reflection of the trust and respect she has earned within the community. Kinnari approaches this role not as a title, but as an opportunity to serve, to bring people together, and to contribute with sincerity and humility. She hopes to take Anand forward where the younger generations can learn about their ancestral roots with the guidance and wisdom from those senior to her.
Looking back, Kinnari’s journey has been filled with challenges, change, learning, and growth. Yet through every stage, she has remained grounded in gratitude, grateful for the opportunities she has received, the people who have supported her, and the chance to give something meaningful back to others. For example, after Hiten’s father’s diagnosis with Parkinson’s, his health has been on the decline. Kinnari decided that every three months either Hiten or her should visit India to spend more time with their father. With the added journeys, and the shop needing one of them always in Oxford, this in turn added more pressure for whoever was staying back.
For Kinnari, to see her father-in-law happy where he could see either one of them and their sons at regular intervals, brought her great happiness. Although he has round the clock care and her mother-in-law who is always by his side, to have his son and daughter-in-law visit more frequently is nothing more precious.
Kinnari's story therefore is a reminder that success is not always built overnight. Sometimes it is built quietly, day by day, through perseverance, love, faith, and an unwavering belief that every new beginning can lead to something beautiful. She believes that life is about learning and we are constantly evolving with every person we meet and every conversation we share.
