Kamlesh Madhvani, the elder son of the late Manubhai Madhvani of Jinja, Uganda, celebrated his 70th birthday in London last month. The event, held at the Rosewood Hotel, was attended by over 100 guests, including family and friends from around the globe. Speeches were delivered by Kamlesh's two daughters, Jaya and Shifa Madhvani, his brother Shrai Madhvani, and Kamlesh himself.

The Madhvani Group of Companies, commonly known as the Madhvani Group, is one of Uganda’s largest and most diversified conglomerates. Starting with sugar production, the group has expanded into a wide range of global industries and now holds investments in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, the Middle East, India, the UK and North America.

The Madhvani family remains a prominent business dynasty, well-established in Uganda and many other countries. Historically, the Madhvani Group played a pivotal role in Uganda’s economy, contributing significantly to the country’s exports. The group is the largest taxpayer and employer in Uganda, with its founder, Muljibhai Madhvani, recognised as a pioneering industrialist and a generous philanthropist. His contributions to education, healthcare, African welfare, and initiatives in India have left an enduring legacy.

Jayantbhai Madhvani, a dynamic and visionary leader, played a pivotal role in the family's success. Tragically, he passed away in Delhi. His daughter, Ambassador Nimisha Madhvani, upholds the family’s legacy as the High Commissioner of Uganda to the UK. Previously, she also held the esteemed position of High Commissioner of Uganda to India. After Jayantbhai’s untimely demise, Manubhai Madhvani assumed the role of patriarch, guiding both the family and the business with steadfast leadership.

Presently, Mayur Muljibhai Madhvani along with Kamlesh Manubhai Madhvani, leads the Madhvani Group, overseeing its operations in Uganda and beyond. Kamleshbhai’s wife, Sheila Madhvani and his brother Shrai Madhvani, along with Shrai’s wife Aparna Madhvani, are influential figures in the British Asian community.

Even today, the Madhvani name is synonymous with philanthropy and entrepreneurship, in East Africa, the UK, India and other countries. Their legacy continues to inspire and resonate across generations.
