On Bank Holiday Monday (30 May) UK's Jain community gathered at Jain Centre, Colindale to celebrate the formation of Jain International Orgaisation's London Chapter and to honour UK's first Jain Mayor Cllr. Rekha Shah, Mayor of Harrow.
Guests included Cllr Shah's consort, Cllr Navin Shah, London Assembley Member for Brent & Harrow at the GLA, the Mayor of Brent, Cllr Parvez Ahmed and Deputy Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Suri Khatri and Deputy Mayoress Tara Khatri and Leader of Harrow Council, Cllr Sachin Shah.
The event was attended by over 250 people from the UK Jain community and included spiritual prayers for 108 Parshwanath bhagwan and details of the new Jain Centre which is being developed on the current site were also shared with those present.
Commenting on the formation of London branch of Jain International Organisation and Jain Centre as its international headquarters, Dr Natubhai Shah, Chair and CEO of Jain Network, said: “We are delighted to celebrate the formation of JIO in London and for Jain Centre London to be its global headquarters as our aim is to share and spread bhagwan Mahavir's teachings and Ahimsa message to a global audience.”
