Councillor Parveen Rani, representing Hindi Shiksha Parishad UK, recently organised a special cultural evening at London's Nehru Centre, uniting leaders from Indian community groups, esteemed guests, and young performers in an event celebrating Indian heritage, language, and identity. The occasion also commemorated Lord Uday Nagaraju’s appointment to the House of Lords, adding historical significance for the British Indian community.
The evening began with a heartfelt welcome, emphasising unity, tradition, and pride. Taking place during Ugadi and the start of Navratri, it embodied themes of renewal, strength, and cultural continuity, which were evident throughout the programme.
A major highlight was the participation of students from Hindi Shiksha Parishad UK, whose performances brought the organisation’s mission to life. Young participants recited devotional pieces and delivered expressive dances, demonstrating both their talent and deep-rooted cultural connections. These moments underscored the importance of nurturing identity among younger generations in the United Kingdom.
Prominent guests shared insights during the event. Lord Krish Raval OBE, Director of Faith in Leadership, reflected on leadership and community impact. Former MP Virendra Sharma stressed the value of ongoing engagement and cultural preservation.
Chief Guest Lord Uday Nagaraju delivered an impactful speech in Hindi, touching on values, leadership, and cultural identity. His words highlighted the need to remain connected to one's roots while forging the future. As founder of AI Policy Labs, his work at the intersection of artificial intelligence and governance continues to contribute globally. His elevation to the House of Lords marks a milestone for himself and the broader British Indian community.
The youngest Deputy Mayor in the UK, Councillor Tushar Kumar, also attended, showing continued commitment to community initiatives.
Additional contributions came from Hanuman Dass, Founder of Go Dharmic, award winning Kuchipudi dancer Arunima Kumar BEM and Dr Anuradha Pandey, Hindi and Culture Attaché at the High Commission of India in London.
